Sheriff’s Office cautions residents of recent telephone scam

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert residents to be aware of a telephone scam being reported in the area.
On Thursday morning, Nov. 28, the sheriff’s office received three calls from citizens who had reported receiving a call from someone identifying themselves as Wisconsin Public Service. The caller informed the resident that they owed Wisconsin Public Service money and if not paid, their power would be shut off within the hour.
As in any case, if someone calls you demanding money for any reason, use caution, ask questions, don’t rush into offering any personal information, or giving any money. Also, never hesitate to call someone you trust, or call your local law enforcement agency to help you determine if this is a real call or not. Please share this information not only with your friends on social media, but more importantly with your older friends and family who are often targeted by these scammers.
