The Merrill Chamber of Commerce recently announced their 2019 Mid-sized Business of the Year is Merrill Tool & Water Jet, located at 202 S. Thomas Street in Merrill. Their phone number is 715-536-9916 or email is sales@merrill-tool.com. The award was presented at the Chamber’s annual Celebration and Awards in early October, and voted on by other Chamber member businesses.
Merrill Tool & Water Jet opened in July 1999, as Merrill Tool & Die. Brothers Craig and Lee Osphal founded a machine shop focused on providing small metal parts and die components. In 2003, the business had grown enough to support building a 6,000 sq. ft. facility at 202 Eugene Street in Merrill. The company expanded from its tool & die focus to include more services, such as water jet cuttings, new machining capabilities and producing a wide variety of aluminum brackets.
In 2008, the company changed its name to Merrill Tool & Water Jet to emphasis its expertise in water jet cutting. Within a few years, the company had grown too large again. So, in the Fall of 2011 they moved into its current location. The company has enjoyed rapid expansion at its 55,000 sq. ft. production facility.
The additional space allowed the company to expand its capabilities to include new services, including laser cutting, fabrication of larger weldments and new VMC’s and turning centers for machinery. By offering both laser and water jet services, Merrill Tool & Water Jet provides a cost competitive solution for either thin or thick parts, in both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, as well as non-traditional materials ranging from plastics to ceramics.
Merrill Tool & Water Jet currently employs 30 people; supporting machining, forming, water jet and laser cutting manufacturing.
This family owned business built Merrill Tool & Water Jet with a focus to meet deadlines, producing a quality product, fair pricing, excellent customer service and building business relationships with trust and integrity.
Merrill Tool & Water Jet, another home-grown, family-owned Merrill business with deep roots in the community and makes a difference in our community by keeping jobs here.
