Merrill Police Department Calls for Service

November 18
At 10 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a vehicle on fire. The vehicle was located and fire was controlled. The vehicle was estimated to be a total loss.

At 3:57 p.m., an officer responded to a local bank for a report of an individual presenting a false identification in an attempt to cash a check. Staff seized the presented identification and it was determined to be fraudulent. Two male parties entered the bank and attempted to cash a check issued to another party by presenting the fraudulent identification. The parties were no longer on scene when the officer arrived and the investigation into identifying the parties is ongoing.

At 10:17 p.m., officers responded to an apartment building for a report of a window damaged in one of the apartment units. The reporting party thought that the window may have been damaged by a bb gun. Officers determined that the damage was not likely done by a bb gun but was damaged from the outside by an unknown implement. The scene was investigated and the investigation into the source of the damage is ongoing.

November 19
At 11:55 p.m., an officer responded to West Side Laundry for a report of a theft from the coin machine. The complainant advised an unknown male appears to have taken coins from the change machine possibly utilizing a key. Surveillance footage has been obtained and the male party is attempting to be identified. The investigation is ongoing.

November 20
At 2:40 p.m., an officer responded to a fraud complaint. The caller had fallen victim to a scam regarding their social security number, which they had given out. The party was given information on who to contact regarding their compromised social security number and information on how to monitor their credit.

November 21
At 12:54 p.m., officers responded to the office of Probation and Parole to take a male party into custody for a probation violation. He was transported to the jail.

At 5:38 p.m., an officer responded to a stolen vehicle complaint. The caller had left a spare key in the truck and the doors unlocked. The investigation is ongoing.

At 9:32 p.m., officers responded to a fight at a local tavern. The caller advised there were numerous people involved. Upon arrival, it was determined that one male party was highly intoxicated and was being vulgar in the bar and was asked to leave by the bartender. The male
was refusing to leave and other patrons were getting him out of the bar. There was no fight and
the male walked home.

At 11:44 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle was found to be stolen
from a nearby city. The female driver was arrested for Operating without Owners Consent. The
vehicle was released back to the owner.

November 22
At 7:30 p.m., an Officer on patrol came across an individual that wanted to report a domestic disturbance. This was found to have occurred as the two parties were driving through town. The male subject was initially not located as he had jumped out of the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

November 24
At 11:30 a.m., Officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of a domestic disturbance. During the course of the investigation, a male subject was taken into custody for charges of intimidation of a victim, disorderly conduct and bail jumping.

At 4:25 p.m., an Officer on patrol observed a vehicle doing a burn out as it left a business on East Second Street. The vehicle was stopped and the Officer noted the odor of intoxicants. The male subject was placed through filed sobriety tests and based off of those tests, he was arrested for OWI 4 th offense. He was also cited for unnecessary acceleration and booked into the jail on the OWI 4 th offense charge as well as a probation hold.

November 25
At 12:40 a.m., an officer on patrol observed a couple of individuals out front of a local establishment that appeared to be arguing. The Officer drove around the block and observed as the two continued with their discussion. Contact was made with the two males and they were advised to leave the area and head home. The one male followed the officer’s directive, but the other male would not leave and argued with officers. He was taken into custody for disorderly conduct.
