Ronald H. Hornischer
Ron was born in 1934 at home in Merrill, Wisconsin. He married Alvina I. Merkel (Veenie) on August 30, 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church Town of Berlin, WI. They were blessed with two sons, Michael Ron Hornischer, Merrill and David Don Horischer (Bev) of Portage, four grandchildren, Matthew David Hornischer of Portage, Shania Alexis Horischer and Adam Yirkovsky both of Merrill and Ally Swan of Wausau. Ron attended the University of Illinois, then entered the Army (ASA) and served from 1954 to 1957. After discharge he worked at the Chevy Garage in Merrill. Later he worked at Lincoln County Bank for 50 years, 18 years as President and 32 years as a Director. During his time at the bank he graduated from both the University of Michigan-Marquette School of Banking and the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Banking. Ron was active in numerous organizations and charities. He served on the Chamber of Commerce in various capacities including Director, President, Vice-President of Finance, Vice-President of Membership, and Chair of the Legislative committee. He served as Vice-Chairman of the Lincoln County Board of Adjusters, was a member of the Lincoln County comprehensive Planning Program, and served on the Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation. Ron was Town of Harding Chairman for many years, as well as Vice President of the Lincoln Chapter of Land Use Committee, Vice-President of the Lincoln County Chapter of Wisconsin Towns Association, and served as Chairman and Director of the Merrill Help Center. Ron’s faith was very important to him. He read the Bible cover to cover several times. He served as Chairman, Financial Secretary, Treasurer and Elder at Either St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church or Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church. In is free time, he enjoyed his “deer camp” as well as fishing, golfing, baseball, poker, and singing and playing with his grandchildren. Ron and Veenie enjoyed traveling the United States as well as Canada and Mexico. One of his greatest trips was going on the “Honor Flight” to Washington, DC in October 2016.
Ron is survived by his wife, Veenie, of 61 years, children Mike and Dave (Bev), grandchildren Matt, Shania, Adam and Ally, brother Herb Hornischer (Ramona), Merrill, sister JoAnn Belant, Merrill, brother Charles Phelps (Marsha), Merrill, brother Dan Phelps (Mary), Florida and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Herman & Bertha Burgener, Herbert & Natalie Hornischer, parents Charles & Martha Phelps and Herbert Hornischer, brother Donald Hornischer, Aunt Josephine Hornischer, niece Vicki Hornischer Fritts and several aunts and uncles.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at Ascension good Samaritan Hospital, Merrill and St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. We would also like to thank the Merrill EMT/firefighter/ambulance crew for their caring service. In lieu of flowers, memorials could be made in Ron’s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to your favorite charity. Funeral service are to be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church, N1660 Leafy Grove Road, Merrill WI 54452 on Saturday, November 9th, 2019. visitation Will be from 9am-11am with the service at 11 am. Interment will be a the church cemetery.
