New name, new campaign for New Year Ride
Do you know of an individual or family in the Merrill area who could use a little extra support? or perhaps a non-profit organization? If so, MACR can help!
Merrill Area Community Rides (M.A.C.R), formerly known as the Merrill Community New Year Ride, is now accepting applications for 2020 support recipients.
As M.A.C.R Executive Committee Vice-Chair Paul Russell explains, the name change has been in the works for several months, but the final decision was ultimately a matter of finding the “right” name.
“When we first began our efforts to help those in need in our community four years ago, we were focused on one fundraising event a year, which was our snowmobile ride in mid-January. Hence the name ‘New Year Ride.’ But due to the overwhelming amount of support we have received since then, and the generous buy-in of our mission by not only the Merrill community, but also neighboring communities such as Gleason and Tomahawk, we decided a change was in order. Our reach of supporting others in need has expanded well beyond Merrill and we needed a name to reflect that. Merrill Area Community Rides was perfect.”
MACR raises funds via three recreational rides each year, including ‘Sleds ‘N Jams’ Snowmobile Ride in February, ‘Mud ‘N Jams’ ATV Ride in June and ‘Rosco’s Ride’ Motorcycle Ride in September. Each event is held locally and features live music, raffles and other festivities. Every dollar raised is donated to selected recipients.
“2020 will mark our 4th fundraising year and we’re very excited to get to work,” Russell adds.
Applications are available by contacting MACR via Facebook at ‘Ride Merrill’ or emailing the organization at RideWithUs54452@gmail.com.
Applications for support from MACR must meet the following criteria to be considered:
1) Qualifying nominees must be a non-profit organization or private party/family located in the Irma, Gleason or Merrill areas. Services provided by nominated non-profit organizations must be focused in these areas as well.
2) Nominators may remain anonymous from public announcement, but applications must be signed with complete contact information for both nominators and nominees.
2) Complete information must be provided for at least three references
Applications are due no later than Wednesday, October 23. Applications will be screened and three support recipients will be selected during the next MACR Executive Committee meeting on Thursday, Oct. 24 at the AmericInn of Merrill, beginning at 6 p.m. Meetings are open to the public.
In 2019 alone, MACR totaled nearly $5,500 in funds raised; supporting HAVEN Inc. and three local families in need. Since its inception in 2016, MACR has raised over $10,000 in support of local organizations and families.
