League of Women voters to host ‘Running for Office 101’
The October meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) will take place Tuesday, October 8th, 5:30-7 p.m. at the Buedingen Center, W6147 State Road 86, in Tomahawk. The program will be an experience-sharing of the “Ins and Outs”, along with the “Ups and Downs” and “How Tos” of running for local offices in northern Wisconsin.
If you have ever considered running for office, but were never quite sure what all is involved, then this meeting is for you. Four local current and former office holders have agreed to come tell their stories. Merrill Mayor Derek Woellner, Oneida County Board Supervisor Steven Schreier, former Lake Tomahawk Town Board Supervisor Catherine Parker and Lincoln County Clerk Chris Marlowe have all agreed to come and share their reasons for running, their logistics, and candidacy stories. County Clerk Marlowe will also give the legal requirements for candidancy. There will be ample opportunity afterwards for questions. Even if you are not considering running for public office, this meeting should provide an interesting look at people who do serve as our elected officials. Everyone is invited to attend.
The LWVNOW encompasses Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas counties. Our local league belongs to the state and national League of Women Voters, a non-partisan organization devoted to helping members and fellow citizens develop educated political opinions and act upon them through the democratic process.
