Bluejay swimmers place fourth at ‘Fun in the Sun’ home meet

The Merrill swim team competed well on Thursday night at their Fun in the Sun outdoor swim meet, held at the Bierman Family Aquatic Center in Merrill, taking fourth place at the nine team meet. Merrill looked strong in the early season meet, with top four finishes in five of the nine events.
Merrill made a big splash in the second event, taking first place in the 400 yard medley relay. The relay team consisting of Trinity Kanitz, Erin Kanitz, Amber Winter and Emma Pajtash, swam a time of 4:29.33, beating out the second place team by a five second margin. The 600 yard medley relay team, including Camryn Schulz, Trinity Kanitz, Winter and Pajtash took fourth place, with a time of 7:29.14. The 300 yard butterfly relay team, made up of the Kanitz girls, Schulz and Winter, took third place, with a swim time of 3:19.90.
Merrill’s 300 yard backstroke relay team took fourth place with a swim of 3:39.49. Merrill swimmers in the 300 yard backstroke include both Kanitz girls, Caitlyn Pehlke and Amanda VanWie. The 300 yard breaststroke relay consisting of Katie Myszka, Schulz, Pajtash and Winter, took fourth place, swimming a time of 3:52.55.
“This is a really fun event we look forward to hosting each year.” said Merrill head coach Kristie Winter. “Eight other teams came out and braved the cooler temperatures to compete. We are very lucky to have access to a facility like the Bierman Family Aquatic Center.”
The Merrill swim team will be back in the water on Thursday, Aug. 29, as they travel to D.C. Everest for a varsity pentathon, starting at 5 p.m.
