MFD hosts 40th annual softball tournament

The 40th annual Merrill Firefighters Charities Allan Soward Memorial softball tournament took place over the weekend, with hundreds of people coming out to show their support. Team Baja’s would win the tournament, taking down the reining champions, Plautz’s Pub, in back-to-back games to secure the championship.
The Merrill Fire Department would like to thank all those that helped throughout the weekend and look forward to hosting the tournament again next year. Each year the tournament raises approximately $10,000 that is donated back to the community in various ways.

The Merrill Firefighters Charities softball tournament began in 1980. Pictured are the winners from the first ever tournament.
