Muriel R. Day

Muriel R. Day, 94, of Merrill passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill under the care of her family, the nursing home staff, and hospice services. Muriel was born February 27, 1925, in Marion, Wisconsin daughter of the late Ed and Elsa (Kundert) Degner. Her first marriage was to Ralph Hintze in January of 1943 in Merrill. She then married Clifford “Diny” Zortman on June 26, 1965 in Merrill. He preceded her in death on November 25, 1979. She then married Fahy Day on March 2, 1985, and he preceded her in death in 2001. Muriel had been a Supervisor at the former Hansen Glove Factory in Merrill for 20 years. She had also worked at the former Northern Door in Merrill, the Merrill View Motel, and Semco. Muriel enjoyed fishing in Canada, and following the Brewers and Packers. Her greatest joy was her family; especially following her grandchildren’s sporting events.

Muriel is survived by her daughter, Sue (Tom) Okray, Sturgeon Bay; her son, Dennis (Barbara) Hintze, Merrill; three step children, John (Sharon) Zortman and Katie (John) Lopez, both of Wausau, and Jim (Sherry) Zortman, Merrill; her grandchildren Steve (Dawn) Hintze, Jeff (Connie) Hintze, Julie (Dom) Belfiori, Michael Okray, Amber (David) Holt, Jamie (Rick) Seliger, and Alex Zortman; her great grandchildren Jake, Ben, Mikayla, Tyler, Hunter, Kelsie, Ashley, Abbey, Casey, Cadence, Jackson, and Aubrie; her great great grandchildren Breleigh, Jameson, and Jackson; her sisters Audrey Kraus, Friendship, Wisconsin, Maggie Woller, Minocqua, and Judy (Buck) Zimmerman, Merrill; and her brothers, Leroy Degner of California, and Clarence (Sue) Degner and Gerald (Sharon) Degner, both of Merrill. Muriel is preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Degner.

The funeral for Muriel will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 8, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. Matthew Bless will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Merrill Memorial Park, Merrill. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon Thursday, August 8th at the church.
