Irene M. Haig

Irene M. Haig, 94, of Merrill, passed away Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill. Irene was born October 17, 1924, in the Town of Vilas, Langlade County, daughter of the late Frank Sr. and Elizabeth (Buchta) Glugla.  She married Bernard McKinney on June 18, 1942.  He preceded her in death on July 19, 1976.  She then married Herbert Haig on August 4, 1978.  He preceded her in death on January 17, 2009.  Irene was a bus driver for the Antigo School District.  In 1968, Irene and Bernard moved to Merrill, and she took a job at the former Semling & Menke Co.  Irene was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Merrill.  She enjoyed crafting, feeding the birds, making maple syrup, and flower and vegetable gardening.  Irene especially enjoyed mowing her lawn and taking care of her yard.  She wintered for several years in Florida with her husband, Herbie.

Irene is survived by two daughters, Elaine Bergman of Gleason and Rosalie McKinney of Green Bay; one son, Gerald (Patty) McKinney of Rhode Island; one step-daughter, Barb (Gary) Germain of Ladysmith; two step-sons, Robert (Minnie) Haig, Sr. of Merrill and Gerald Haig of Washington; one daughter-in-law, Karen McKinney of Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 step great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Jenny Pont; three brothers; Clements (Helen) Glugla, Frank (Pat) Glugla, Sr. and Pete (Sue) Glugla; and one step sister-in-law, Virginia Passell of Virginia. Irene was preceded in death by her husbands, Bernard McKinney and Herbert Haig; parents, Frank Sr. and Elizabeth Glugla; son, Bernard McKinney, Jr.; step-son, Steve Haig; son-in-law, Richard W. Bergman; granddaughter, Courtney McKinney; and siblings, Caroline Haug, Donald Glugla and Sister Lawrence Glugla.

The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 9, 2019 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill.  Deacon Jim Arndt will officiate.  Burial will follow in Neva Cemetery, Langlade County.
