On Saturday, July 27, the Lincoln County Humane Society will host the ‘Fun Run for Furry Friends’ ATV-UTV poker run and raffle fundraiser, at Z’s Fork Horners Bar and Grill in Gleason.
“This is our first time trying an event like this, but we’re very excited!” said LCHS Director Liz Friedenfels.
“The sport of ATV’ing is very popular in our area, so we decided to put something together and hopefully bring some riders out to help raise funds for the shelter.”
As Friedenfels explains, except for a lump sum received annually from the county for a stray animal contract, the Lincoln County Humane Society relies solely on donations and fundraising events for support and operations. Every dollar raised goes toward food and supplies for shelter residents, as well as medical costs such as spay/neutering, immunizations and vaccinations.
The event begins at 9 a.m. on July 27, with registration from 9-11. The poker run will include six stops in Gleason and the Harrison Hills ATV trail system, including; Nut-Zees Bar and Restaurant, The Boar’s Nest, Gleason Bowling Center, Fisher’s Bar, Barry and Sherry’s Town and Country and Ditch Runners. The poker run drawing will be held at 6 p.m. at Z’s Fork Horners along with cash and basket raffles, door and grand prizes. Some items up for raffle include a custom made fire ring, water park passes, aquarium passes, an overnight stay at a resort & casino as well as a local half-day guided fishing trip.
The Dukes will then perform Saturday night, from 7-11 p.m.
As Z’s Fork Horners co-owner Lori Studinski explains, supporting LCHS’ endeavor was seemingly a no-brainer.
“I’m a huge animal lover so we’re more than happy to help support the humane society any way we can. And it’s just a great feeling to be involved and active in the community. It takes a group effort to support and keep a community together.”
