Merrill wrestlers attend the World Wrestling Camp

On June 17-20, the Merrill wrestling team traveled to Wisconsin Dells for the World Wrestling Team Camp. Jon McGovern, head coach of University of Dubuque Iowa and Dennis Hall, Greco-Roman World Gold Champion and Olympic Silver medalist, were the two men running the camp.
According to Merrill wrestling head coach Brian Suchocki, this camp is designed for teams to get completion and technique. Ben Peterson, Olympic Gold medalist, Chris Bono, UW-Madison head wrestling coach and Doug Schwaub, University of Northern Iowa head wrestling coach, were some of the main clinicians teaching technique.
“From stand point of learning technique we had some of the best teachers,” said coach Suchocki, “Everything they taught was solid. Our wrestlers competed in 10 duels and 85 matches and competed well. There was good competition and many lessons about wrestling, but all the clinicians focused on character and work ethic as the main emphasis. Overall the camp was a great opportunity for us.”
