Part of US Hwy 51 north of Tomahawk was closed last Monday evening, May 20, after a vehicle caught fire. Just after 5 p.m. cell callers reported the Ford F-250 truck on fire near US Hwy 8. Firefighters were on the scene for just less than an hour, the truck was a total loss.
A northbound lane of US Hwy 51 was closed on the evening of Tuesday, May 21, after a fire was reported on the side of the road near the Wisconsin River bridge. A deputy found one of the wooden posts supporting the guardrail burning and was able extinguish most of the flames. It was later learned that workers had replaced a section of the guardrail earlier in the day using a torch.
A 28-year old Merrill woman will be referred to the Lincoln County District Attorney for child neglect, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies investigated a drug use complaint in the Town of Merrill. A citizen reported they stopped at a residence on County Rd JJ to check on a dog that was running loose. When the citizen knocked on the door, a small child eventually came to the door holding a pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana. The investigating deputies located marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the home, some of which was within reach of at least one child.
A wind storm swept through Lincoln County early Wednesday morning, keeping emergency responders and the dispatch center busy for most of the day. Multiple reports of downed trees blocking roadways, power wires being down, and power wires caught up in trees and causing minor fires, were received throughout the day. In total the 911 center handled around 90 calls related to the storm.
A 21-year old Madison man was injured after a single vehicle crash early Friday on US Hwy 8 near East Circle Drive. The driver was transported by Tomahawk EMS for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The driver was cited for a first offense of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and for having open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
A 33-year old Wausau man was arrested Saturday evening by deputies on an outstanding warrant from the Chippewa County Sheriff after receiving a complaint of a no contact order violation at business in the Town of Russell. When contact was made with the male it was found he was violating the rules of his probation.
The Town of Russell Fire Department responded early Sunday morning to a report of a possible fire in the Town of Birch. At 5 a.m. a resident of Irma reported his home filling with smoke. Deputies and firefighters were not able to locate any fire.
An ATV crash resulted in a 44-year old Waupaca woman being injured Sunday afternoon, after striking a tree along an ATV trail in the Town of Harrison. The victim was removed from the woods by the Tomahawk Fire Department and was transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital, where she was treated and later released.
A 44-year old Hartford man was cited Sunday evening for operating a UTV while intoxicated, after a deputy stopped a group of riders on County Rd D at County Rd B for a speeding violation. One driver was cited for careless operation and a 44-year old was arrested for an ATV OWI offense, after he showed signs of intoxication and was placed through field sobriety tests.
