Strategic Planning – A Community Conversation
I appreciate the interest and attendance of those involved with our recent event, Strategic Planning – A Community Conversation. Much has changed in our district since the last Community Conversation event three years ago. For example, we have addressed the previous priorities of attracting/retaining quality teachers/administrators with our recent compensation plans, established a Fab Lab, and tackled some overdue maintenance projects. Our efforts still remain to continue to enhance these areas, but new priorities have focused.
A few of the topics that prompted in-depth discussion included student achievement and success, staff and student wellness (social/emotional, mental, physical), fiscal responsibility and community partnerships. School district employees continue to work hard to respond to the needs of our community.

Great Speaker – Terrence Talley
On April 24, Great Speaker Terrence Talley addressed our high school and middle school students. His powerful message to our students of not giving up was very well received. He stressed that every student matters and, because they matter, they can make a difference.
There was an overwhelmingly positive response to Terrence from our students this year. Much of the student excitement was carried into their homes and productive conversations were had as students shared his message with their parents. Special thanks to the students and community members on the Great Speaker Committee for making this event possible!

Merrill High School Graduation
On Friday, May 24, the Class of 2019 will take the stage to receive their diplomas. The doors will open at 5:00 and the commencement will begin at 6:00. Tickets are not required, as this is a free event. Please join me as we congratulate this year’s graduates. While saying goodbye is always a bittersweet experience, the Bluejay staff wishes them the very best in their future endeavors!

School Calendar Reminder
Please remember the last day of instruction for our students is Thursday, June 13. The last day is a full day of school. Summer school will begin on Monday, June 17 and run for ten consecutive weekdays through Friday, June 28.
