League of Women Voters Introduction to the Observer Corps.

The next monthly meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) will take place on Tuesday, April 9, 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the River Valley Bank, 1218 N Fourth Street in Tomahawk. It will focus on LWVNOW’s plan to establish an Observer Corps during 2019.

An Observer Corps is a structured program intended to promote government transparency and accountability. Designated Observers regularly attend local government meetings such as county, town, and school board meetings. They monitor both the issues being discussed as well as the process by which they are handled. They note what happens at the meetings, and report back. This enables the collection and sharing of information about issues and how our government is functioning to address them.
The public is welcome and all attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and ideas.
The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods currently encompasses Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas counties. Our local league belongs to the state and national League of Women Voters, a non-partisan organization devoted to helping members and fellow citizens develop educated political opinions and act upon them through the democratic process. Our monthly meetings and sponsored events are open to all.
