On Sunday March 3 at Cathy and Cals the Merrill wrestling team held the 59th annual Legion wrestling banquet.
“This event is a great way to send off seniors, recognize successes during the season and put closure to the high school wrestling season.” Comments Merrill head coach Brian Suchocki. “Three past head coaches were in attendance, Bob Upsahl, Roger Wendorf and Scott Arneson. It is awesome to be sitting with these legends of Merrill wrestling. The tradition of Merrill wrestling is impressive and it’s due in large part to these men.”
The wrestlers who received awards at the banquest include: Tanner Depies- Mr. Team and Most improved underclassmen. Zach Iribarren- Outstanding wrestler in memory of Charles Gustin, Most takedowns in memory of Rod Genrich and Most Improved upperclassmen. Bradley Leiskau- Most pins, Most team points, The Orge Award in memory of Mike Hill and the prestigious Legion award presented by Mike Van Leishout.
“We are very fortunate to be paired with the Legion for our banquet.” adds Suchocki, “It is a great event each and every year.”
