Merrill Eagles donate to community causes

The Merrill Eagles Aerie #584 and its auxiliary recently made a number of donations.

At the annual Fraternal Order of Eagles #584-Aerie/Auxiliary Joint Christmas Party, Boomer Memorial Raffle Chairman, Bryan Plautz presented a $500 check to the Lincoln County Respite Program. The Respite program began 11 years ago in honor of Mary Geiss and is designed to support the caregivers of disable children.

The Never Forgotten Honor Flight was the first recipient of the proceeds from the First Annual Prime Rib Challenge. The $1,000 check was distributed at the annual Merrill Fraternal Order of Eagles #584-Aerie/Auxiliary Joint Christmas Party held on Jan. 5, 2019.

Pete McConnell of Praire River Middle School received a $500 donation from the Boomer Memorial Raffle. Pete wrote a grant that started the Freedom Pens project in January of 2017. Eighth grade students volunteer their time after their normal school hours to turn pens that are then provided to each veteran on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight. Each pen bears the name of the student manufacturer and includes a personal note from the student thanking the veteran for their service.

Christmas in July received a $500 donation from both the Merrill Fraternal Order of Eagles #584, Aerie and Auxiliary. Christmas in July is affiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network and celebrates Christmas in July at Marshfield Children’s Hospital.

The annual Merrill Fraternal Order of Eagles #584-Aerie/Auxiliary Joint Christmas Party was held on Jan. 5, 2019. At the Joint Christmas Party on Jan. 5, Past State President Les Sabatke presented grants from the Grand Aerie in the amount of $1,000 to both the Merrill Area Enrichment Center and HAVEN.
