Merrill ballers lose twice in Green Bay

On Friday afternoon the Merrill boys basketball team played against Beaver Dam in Green Bay. It was a low scoring affair with Beaver Dam coming out on top by a final score of 44-46.

The first half of play saw a back and forth battle with neither team able to pull away from each other. The Jays would outscore Beaver Dam 29-26 in the first half, led by guard Quinn Steckbauer who scored 12 points in the half. Michael Casper scored eight points in th half and Chase Bonnell had five.

The second half saw Merrill go through a tough time trying to score the ball, as they could only put up 15 points in the half, to Beaver Dam’s 20. Steckbauer led the Jays in scoring for the game with 21 points, making six of his seven free throws. Casper scored 10 points on the day, Bonnell finished with six and Caleb Timm finished the game with four.

The Jays will be back on the court on Friday as they host Wisconsin Rapids in a conference game, starting at 7:15 p.m.

Merrill falls to Waupun

On Thursday night the Merrill boys basketball team traveled to Green Bay for a game against Waupun. The Jays would struggle to score in the first half and would end up losing by a final score of 51-66.

The first half of play saw Merrill score only 20 points to Waupun’s 42. Quinn Steckbauers’ seven points led the Jays in scoring for the half. Michael Casper and Chase Bonnell would each score five points in the half.

In the second half of the game Merrill was much better, outscoring Waupun 31-24, however it was not enough to close the gap as Waupun took the 66-51 victory.

Steckbauer finished the game with 22 points, making four three-pointers. Casper scored eight points in the game, Bonnell ended with five and Piersen Pyan scored four.
