Tomahawk man receives one year jail time in stabbing case

A 25-year-old Tomahawk man accused of stabbing another man multiple times during a July 2017 altercation, was sentenced to one year in jail and six years probation on Thursday, Dec. 20. The case stems from a July 8, 2017 incident where 25-year-old Cody J. Jenson is accused of stabbing another man 11 times, causing injuries to the victim’s upper torso, diaphragm and liver.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, Jenson reportedly arrived at the victim’s residence and an altercation ensued. The victim reportedly admitted to smashing out Jenson’s truck window. Jenson reportedly emerged from the truck and mutual punches were thrown, when Jenson reportedly drew a hunting knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. Jenson reportedly indicated to investigators he had stabbed the victim three times after the victim pulled him from his truck, however medical records and photographs taken at a nearby hospital indicated the victim having sustained 11 stab wounds.

A neighbor of the victim advised investigators of attempting to assist the victim, when Jenson reportedly got back into his truck, started it and began to approach the victim as the victim lay on the ground bleeding. The neighbor indicated standing up and yelled at Jenson that the victim already being dead, resulting in the truck squealing to a stop, then turning and leaving the scene.

As part of a plea agreement reached with prosecuting Assistant District Attorney Kurt Zengler and the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office, Jenson pled guilty to a Felony charge of First Degree Reckless Injury, while additional charges of First Degree Attempted Homicide, 1st Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Aggravated Battery with Intent to Cause Great Bodily Harm and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping were dismissed, but read-in for sentencing purposes, Jenson is required to serve only two months of the one-year sentence, while the remaining 10 months will be stayed pending any rule violations of his probation. He was credited with an additional 117 days time served. In addition, Jenson was ordered to pursue a GED or HSED as a condition of his sentence, as well as absolute sobriety and 60 hours of community service. He must serve the two months of jail time by Dec. 20, 2019.
