Merrill wrestling dominates conference opener

On Thursday night the Merrill wrestling team hosted Wausau East in their first conference match up of the season. The Bluejays would control the match from the start and dominate throughout, pinning 10 East wrestlers.

The meet would start with Carter Bayer, wrestling at 152 for the Jays, pinning his opponent in just 38 seconds. At 160 pounds for Merrill, Ethan Cordova would win his match 7-5. Later, Bradly Leiskau (182 pounds) pinned his opponent in 42 seconds, with Tyler Leistikow (195 pounds) following him up with a pin in 1:12. At 220 pounds Walker Bathke would win his match with a pin in under two minutes and Zach Iribarren would do the same at 285.

Merrill would later forfeit at 106 pounds, followed by Trevor Schenzel at 113 who pinned his opponent in 3:44. Tristan Brewington would win his match at 120 pounds with a pin in 1:53, before Jacob Woller (132 pounds) had the fastest match of the night, pinning his opponent in just 15 seconds. Cody Depies (138 pounds) and Casey Hoffman (145 pounds) finished the night, both pinning their opponents in under a minute.

Merrill won by a final score of 69-12 and will look to keep dominating as they head to Sun Prairie on Saturday morning for a tournament.
