Merrill Community Homeless Center to hold annual meeting

The Merrill Community Homeless Center, Inc. (MCHC, Inc.) announces it will have its first annual meeting since organizing in 2017. The annual meeting will be held on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 9 a.m. in the conference room at the Menard Center, 503 S. Center Ave. (behind Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital) in Merrill.

During this past week Breaman Ford kicked off a special fund raising effort for MCHC, Inc. Breaman Ford announced that through the entire month of December they will donate $40 for every test drive taken in a new or used vehicle. This test drive is not restricted to buyers only, but everyone can do the test drive one time to help the cause for the homeless center. MCHC, Inc. encourages everyone with a valid driver’s license to give one of their vehicles a whirl. Tell other family and friends about this unique opportunity to help raise money to give shelter to those that would otherwise be out in the cold. The MCHC, Inc. Board of Directors is so very grateful for this wonderful support being given by Breaman Ford.

While Merrill’s new homeless center and shelter has been called Habitat Home, out of recognition and appreciation for the financial gift given by Habitat for Humanity; the homeless center can no longer use the Habitat Home name. Habitat for Humanity International has contacted the Merrill group and requested they discontinue that name so as not to infringe on their name, or to present any confusion to the public. The new name has been chosen by the Board and going forward the facility will do business as MAC Home.

MCHC, Inc. has made significant progress and is preparing to have a functional facility in the very near future. The remodeling of the facility is now complete and it is ready to go. The MCHC, Inc. is just waiting on receipt of the final occupancy permits needed from the State of Wisconsin. The other critical hold-up is hiring the staff needed for operations, and of course, having training for both staff and volunteers. The Team Lead positions will communicate with clients, volunteers and ensure safety within the center. Everyone will have opportunity for training. The Executive Director is Julie Schulz.

If you are interested in either working or volunteering for MCHC, Inc. please contact Julie Schulz at 715-921-4706 or e-mail [email protected].
Everyone is welcome to attend the annual meeting on Dec. 20.
