Friday November 16, the Merrill girls basketball team kicked off their 2018-19 season with a home win over Rhinelander. The Jays would trail at halftime, however would come back in the second half to take the 57-55 victory.
The first half was a back and forth battle with neither team being able to build a big lead. At the halftime break Rhinelander would hold a one point lead on the Jays, with a score of 22-21. The second half of action saw more scoring than the first, as Merrill would score 36 to Rhinelander’s 33 on their way to a two point win.
Merrill did a good job spreading the ball around with three players scoring double digits. Dalie Thomas led the team with 15 points on 50% shooting. Elizabeth Iribarren scored 14 points on 75% shooting and Courtney Krueger scored 11 points on 33% shooting.
