Sierra Humphrey has been chosen for the September Youth Optimist. Sierra was nominated by Mr. Aaron Svicek. Mr. Svicek states, “Sierra’s character has the benefit of adding to the classroom a sense of positivism that one is able to set high – achievable goals, and that through committing to one’s work in a joyful attitude much may be accomplished. Sierra’s optimistic attitude and character, is that of someone who her peers find to be helpful, non-judgmental, kind, involved and trustworthy. She stands out as a positive leader to her underclassman.”
During her high school years, Sierra has participated in Junior Optimist Club (Octagon Club) as Social Chair and President, soccer, Link Crew and tennis. In tennis, she received the Most Improved Player award her junior year and Captain her senior year. She has also received the Touch of Class Award (sportsmanship/positivity) and Christian Athlete Award.
Sierra is very busy outside of school where has been active in Grandpa’s Farm, Humane Society, Washington Enrichments, Salvation Army bell ringer, vacation bible school group leader, community Easter egg hunt, Special Olympics group leader, Big Brothers Big Sisters, parking cars for the tractor pull, coaching grade school summer soccer, and playing games with Pine Crest residents. She has also helped for Washington School Santa’s Workshop, made blankets for the homeless shelter, sold cookies for the Jr. Optimist Club (Octagon Club) Valentine’s Day cookie fundraiser, made cards for Teacher Appreciation Day, painted a mural for Rise Up Day, sold concessions for the dog show, and handed out programs for the Senior Awards Banquet. Sierra is also very active at St. John volunteering for the fair stand, carnival, and soup supper, mowing the lawn, selling fundraising script, teaching Sunday school, helping at the auction registration table, and waitressing at MHS for the St. John football banquet.
Following high school graduation, Sierra plans to major in architectural or interior design. She is the daughter of Denise and Jim Humphrey.
