According to a press release issued the DNR Tuesday, starting November 8, a limited number of CWD surveillance authorizations are available on select parcels of public lands in these counties due to CWD detections in farmed deer near Three Lakes and in wild deer near Crescent Corner.
CWD surveillance authorizations are free and valid for one adult deer (antlered or antlerless), and those who harvest a deer with one of these authorizations are required to submit the head for CWD testing. We’d like to thank our County Forest partners in Lincoln, Oneida, Forest, Vilas and Langlade counties as well as the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest for their support in making these CWD surveillance authorizations available to the public!
Public land CWD surveillance authorizations are valid through the end of regular archery season on January 6. They’re property-specific and must be picked up in-person at either the DNR ranger station in Merrill or the DNR service center in Rhinelander between 8:30AM and 4:00PM starting November 8. These authorizations are available on a first-come, first-served basis until they run out.
