Bluejays volleyball season comes to an end

On Saturday night the Merrill volleyball team hosted Mosinee for the regional championship. It was a back and forth affair, however Mosinee would come out on top after a fifth set win.

Mosinee would take the first set, topping the Jays by a score of 25-23. Merrill was able to bounce back and take the second set 25-16. Mosinee would then take the third set, beating Merrill 25-17. The Jays dominated the fourth set with a 25-14 win, however could not keep their momentum as they fell in the fifth set by a score of 15-9.

Merrill’s attack was led by Rylee Mrachek who had 11 kills in the game. Elizabeth Iribarren had a solid showing, totaling nine kills. Kaylee Bowe and Megan Schroder would each finish the game with seven kills, with Eve Akey rounding out the Merrill attack with six kills.

The Jays served the ball well as a team, with a serve percentage of 91. Leading servers for Merrill include Ellie Hartson with 100% serving on 19 tries, with one ace. Kaylee Bowe served 100% on 13 attempts, Allison Tabor served 100% on nine tries and Kelsie Belfiori would serve 92% on 25 tries, with four aces.

Merrill finishes their year with an overall record of 33-11, with a 9-3 conference record, good enough for third in conference.
