Jays fall to Red Robins in season finale

On Friday night the Merrill football team hosted the Antigo Red Robins in the final game of the season. The Jays stuck with Antigo for the first half, however the Red Robins eventually pulled away for a 28-8 win.

Antigo would get on the board first with a one yard touchdown run, however they would fail to convert on the extra point, giving them a 6-0 lead. Another Antigo touchdown and two point conversion gave the Red Robins a 14-0 lead on the Jays.

Merrill would counter Antigo with a touchdown run of their own and make good on the two point conversion to make the score 14-8 going into halftime.

In the second half Antigo would score two more touchdowns and the Jays would not score any as the Red Robins took the 28-8 win.

The Merrill defense was led by Jackson Vander Velde who totaled seven tackles in the game and a forced fumble. Zach Iribarren also had seven tackles and a fumble recovery. Kole Meyer and Piersen Pyan would each tally six tackles in the game, with Meyer also recovering a fumble.

Merrill finished the season with an overall record of 2-7 and went 1-5 in conference play.
