Merrill swimming tops Rapids in conference meet

On Thursday night the Merrill swim team hosted Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln in a conference match up. The Jays would win 10 out of the 11 races and take second in four of them. Merrill would come out on top, beating Rapids by a score of 98-72.

In the 200 yard freestyle Merrill’s Grace Schultz took first place, swimming a time of 2:00.10. Trinity Kanitz would take second in the race, with a swim of 2:10.26. In the 200 yard IM, Merrill would have swimmers take first, second and third. Bailey Orzech took first place, swimming a time of 2:29.65. Camryn Schulz would take second place with a time of 2:32.66. Coming in with a time of 2:48.85 was Aliyah Pillai, who took third place in the race. Later, Grace Shultz would go on to win the 100 yard backstroke, swimming a time of 1:00.55.

Claire Schultz took first place in the 50 yard freestyle, swimming a time of 25.30. Erin Kanitz would finish in third for the race with a time of 27.02. Camryn Schulz then took first place in the 100 yard butterfly, swimming a time of 1:09.90. Aliyah Pillai took third in the race with a swim of 1:16.42. The 500 yard freestyle saw Trinity Kanitz come away with first place, with a swim of 5:44.62. Erin Kanitz would finish in second place, swimming a time of 5:47.99.

The 200 yard freestyle relay was won by Merrill who swam a time of 1:45.96, the swimmers in the relay include Claire Schultz, Grace Schultz, Camryn Schulz, and Trinity Kanitz. In the final race, the 400 yard freestyle relay, Merrill’s team of Claire Schultz, Trinity Kanitz, Erin Kanitz and Grace Schultz would take first place with a time of 3:53.03.

The Merrill swim team is now 2-0 in conference meets and will look to keep winning as they travel to Marshfield next Thursday for another conference match up.
