Merrill Police reports

September 3
5:50 p.m.- A business reported finding damage to a coin machine which occurred sometime in the past two weeks. Entry was not made to the machine.
10:06 p.m.- A caller reported a scam attempt. He befriended a female on facebook.com and the two chatted and eventually agreed upon a video-chat in which the two engaged in sexual activity. The female then showed the caller she had recorded him and demanded money or threatened to release the video to his friends/employers/etc. on his Facebook account. The man did not send any money. This type of scam has been investigated a few times in the Merrill area and thus far the compromising videos have not been released; typically the scammer moves on to a new potential victim. The caller believed his ex-girlfriend maybe be behind the matter however the phone number returned to another state. Although, it is likely a “spoofed” number.

September 4
8:19 a.m.- A boy called 911 to report his bus had not picked him up and he was now locked out of his grandfather’s house. An officer located the boy and made phone contact with his mother who confirmed he was supposed to be at school. The officer provided the boy with a ride to school.
10:15 a.m.- A caller reported finding several tools stolen from his shop. He found most of the missing items at his brother’s residence. His brother denied he took them and claimed he owned them. The caller will be reviewing surveillance video at his shop to provide law enforcement to prove the items were in fact stolen from him by the brother.
10:19 a.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
11:43 a.m.- A caller reported someone had made entry to a change machine at his business. Investigation continues.
2:05 p.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
4:23 p.m.- A male was arrested for a probation violation at the request of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.

September 5
8:57 a.m.- Officers responded to the Probation and Parole office to take a female into custody for a probation violation.
12:52 p.m.- An off-duty officer observed two female parties shoplifting from a local business. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and one female gave a false name. She was later positively identified and had three warrants for her arrest. The stolen items were recovered and both females were arrested for numerous charges.
8:05 p.m.- Officers responded to a fire complaint. The caller stated their juvenile son had lit his bed on fire. Contact was made with the caller and his son. The juvenile is being referred to Social Services for negligent handling of burning materials.
11:07 p.m.- An officer located a vehicle that had been vandalized. The vehicle had butter and yellow mustard smeared on the windows, as well as eggs and tomatoes thrown against it. There was no damage to the vehicle. Investigation is ongoing.

September 6
1:03 a.m.- An officer was approached by a resident who advised that they had several tools stolen from their residence. The investigation is ongoing.
9:08 a.m.- Officers were requested by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Probation and Parole to take a male subject into custody on a probation hold. The male was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
12:54 p.m.- An officer took a report of someone writing a derogatory comment into freshly poured cement in the 200 block of West Third Street. The male subject was located and admitted to the actions. The contractor was able to rectify the etching before it set in. The male subject will be cited for disorderly conduct.
3:03 p.m.- An officer took a report of unauthorized transactions on a debit card. The card had been utilized at a Merrill and Wausau business. The officer is working with Wausau Police Department on this case and a suspect has been identified with the investigation being ongoing.
