On Tuesday night the Merrill volleyball team traveled to Mosinee for a quad meet with Altoona, Markesan and Mosinee. Merrill would go 3-0 on the day to take first at the meet.
Merrill’s first game saw them take down Altoona in three sets. Merrill topped Altoona in the first set 25-20, following it up with a 17-25 loss in the second set. The Jays would end the match with a 17-15 win in the third set to get the win.
Merrill head coach Kris Krug explains the lost set to Altoona saying, “The set that we lost to Altoona was due to our serve receive and blocking errors. However, we were able to come through with a win in the third set.”
Merrill would later match up against Markesan, where the Jays would win in two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-22. After beating Markesan, Merrill would go on to face Mosinee who they would beat in two sets as well. Merrill would take the first set by a score of 26-24 and the second set by a score of 25-14.
“In the first set against Mosinee we were behind most of the time,” adds coach Krug. “What turned the game around was Megan having some aggressive plays at the net and Mosinee was having a hard time stopping Kaylee as she was executing the ball every time. We continued playing aggressively even when the game was tight. One of our goals is to always keep the level of intensity high, tonight we did that.”
Coach Krug would later give her thoughts on her teams depth saying, “I feel like we have a lot of different weapons on our team. We aren’t just going to one player. We have 4-5 girls that can put the ball down at any given time.”
Merrill will look to keep their winning ways as they gear up for an invitational at D.C. Everest on Saturday.
