New bike path at Pine River School for Young Learners

During this past year, Cameron Stadler, Merrill Hig

h School sophomore, has been working toward earning his Eagle Scout Rank in Boy Scouts. Prospective Eagle Scouts plan and complete a project that benefits their community. For his Eagle Scout project, Cameron built an extraordinary tricycle path at Pine River School for Young Learners.

Cameron attended Pine River in the past when it was an elementary school and has many vivid memories of his activities on the playground, so these motivated him to create the project at this school. In the Fall of 2017, Principal Jill Seaman contacted local Boy Scout troop leaders and soon learned that Cameron was ready to get to work on a project.

Cameron shared, “I went to this school as a little kid and made many memories on this playground. Now as a high school student, I would like to see others make memories on this playground as well.”

By May, as soon as the final snow melted from the playscape at Pine River School for Young Learners, Cameron and his organized crew was on site preparing the area for the new concrete pathway. During the same week, the concrete truck and Cameron’s work crew were back at school pouring the path.

“Now our students have the opportunity to explore a new area as they ride their tricycles out into the playscape. This is a great example of how the Merrill community and schools are able to collaborate to support meaningful learning for our students. Children will have a new reason to increase large movement. We are grateful to Cameron Stadler, his family and the efforts of all his crew for this nice addition to our beautiful playscape,” states Jill Seaman. “The playscape is now an even better place for young children to come, explore and play.”

“We are very proud of Cameron as this path will benefit our youngest learners,” states Dr. John Sample, Merrill Area Public Schools Superintendent. “Cameron exemplifies the idea of giving back and we are very grateful for his commitment!”
