Mardell Koehler

Mardell Koehler, 94, of Stevens Point, formerly of Merrill, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Brookdale Assisted Living, Stevens Point.

Mardell was born on August 19, 1923, in Merrill, daughter of the late William C. and Frieda (Roeming) Fehrmann.  Mardell graduated from Tomahawk High School in 1941.  She married Earl Koehler on April 4, 1945 in Laredo, Texas.  He preceded her in death on August 26, 2013.

Mardell worked as a field advisor for the former Birch Trails Girl Scout Council.  She had been a troop leader for 13 years prior to her being appointed the field advisor.  Mardell also was a member of the Camp Birch Trails development committee and served on the council’s camp committee.  She was a member of the Camp Squawberry Committee at Merrill and worked as a volunteer unit leader there.  She also served as a member of the regional committee that formulated the former Birch Trails Girl Scout Council.

Mardell was a devoted member St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill.  She was a member of the Ladies Aid for over 50 years.  Through the Ladies Aid, Mardell prepared and served many church suppers, she was involved in the Polka Festivals, and for 40 years, she served as the chairman of the St. John Fair Stand.  She was also involved in the Altar Guild, Bible Study, and was the former chairman of the St. John Bazaar.

Mardell also served as the county chairman of the American Cancer Society.  Mardell and her husband, Earl, enjoyed spending 25 winters in Florida together.  She also enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include her children, Earlene (Gary) Lipowski of Gainesville, Florida and Jon (Susan) Koehler of Plover; grandchildren, Scott (Lori) Koehler of Houston, Texas, Brian (Sarah) Koehler of Seattle, Washington, Cathy (Don) Bernards of Monona, Wisconsin and Steve (Nicole) Lipowski of Wausau; and great-grandchildren, Luke, Annie, Jane, Katie, Courtney, Lauren, Kendall, Braeden, Andrew and Natalie.  Mardell was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Koehler; parents, William C. and Frieda Fehrmann; and siblings, Shirley Fichtner and William E. (Betty Jane) Fehrmann

The funeral service for Mardell will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church, Merrill.  Entombment will take place at Merrill Memorial Park Mausoleum.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill and after 10:00 A.M. Monday at the church.  Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Merrill, is assisting the family.
