Alcohol suspected factor in fatal Tomahawk area motorcycle crash

On Saturday June 9, 2018 at 5:55 PM the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a motorcycle crash on County Rd D at Sunny Point Road; east of Tomahawk in the Town of King.

The preliminary investigation showed that the motorcycle, being operated by a 51 year old Merrill man, was traveling with a group west on County Rd D when his cycle left the road and struck a culvert ejecting the operator.

Bystanders and a deputy performed CPR but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln County Coroner. The man was not wearing a helmet and it is believed that alcohol played a role in the incident.

This evening, the victim was identifed as 51-year old Philip A. Mattson of Merrill.

Tomahawk EMS and the Tomahawk Fire Department assisted on the scene.

This is the second fatal motor vehicle crash in Lincoln County this year.
