Letters to the Editor

To the Editor:
It’s interesting that Supervisor Zeitz, in his letter to the Foto news, makes no mention of the extensive county board discussion and debate that went on (and will continue to go on) regarding the so-called “wheel tax.”
At the core of this problem sits the state legislature and governor. There has been a consistent refusal from Madison – and, just to keep our records straight, I mean Republicans, not Democrats – to index the gas tax or to fund by other means the necessary road aid.
I can say with certainty that the county board found no joy in passing a $20 per vehicle “wheel tax” for 2018, and there will be no joy when we vote – as we will – to extend that fee for 2019. We will extend it – if we want roads repaired and plowed – because we have to.
If you vote Republican this November you will be voting for those who created this mess. The county board is only doing what it most because the Republicans prefer FoxConn over adequate funding for counties.
With his “lack of transparency” rhetoric, Supervisor Zeitz is in effect protecting the legislature and governor. But if you’re going to pin tails, Bill, stick one on the big, fat butt of the Republicans in Madison, because that’s where the tail belongs.
