Bluejay tracksters headed to sectional meet

The Merrill track teams are sending 11 athletes to sectional competition today at D.C. Everest. Six boys and five girls qualified for sectionals on the strength of their performances at the Division 1 regional meet at Wausau East Monday.

Senior Jared Ollhoff jumped to the top of the regional field in the triple jump with a distance of 43’10.75”. He also qualified in the long jump, placing third at 20’6.75”. Right behind Ollhoff in the long jump was Merrill senior Adam Laehn, who qualified for sectional with a fourth place finish at 20’2”.

Qualifying in the boys 300 Meter Hurdles was Senior Aidan Tautges, who placed fourth with a time of 42.87. Junior Taron Gutowski qualified with a fourth place finish in the 400 Meter Dash at 53.99. In the boys 1600 Meter, Merrill sophomore Dominic Laufenberg moved on to sectional with a fourth place time of 4:42.22.

On the girls side, Merrill sprinters Autumn Schenzel and Faith Seliger qualified for sectional in multiple events. Seliger took second in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 27.37, followed closely by Schenzel in fourth place at 27.63. Seliger also placed second in the 100 Meter Dash with a time of 13.19.

Junior Dalie Thomas qualified with a fourth place finish in the 800 Meter at 2:34.53.

The girls 4×200 Relay also moves on to sectional with a third place regional performance in a time of 1:50.34. The team consists of Schenzel, Seliger, Thomas, junior Brielle Thorson, and alternates, seniors Emily Sczygelski and Morgan Wardall.

In team scoring, the Merrill boys placed sixth at regional while the girls placed seventh.
