League of Women Voters active in Lincoln and Oneida counties

The League of Women Voters of the Northwoods (LWVNOW) is a chapter of the League of Women Voters (LWV), a nationwide organization, that neither supports nor opposes candidates for any level of government. Established in 2013, the LWVNOW serves the counties of Lincoln, Langlade, Oneida, Florence, Forest and Vilas. It is interested in assisting area citizens exercise the right to have an active and informed participation in their government. Encouraging voter registration and voting is a large part of the League mission. The League also facilitates candidate forums to allow voters to determine a wise choice before voting.

Formed in 1920, by Carrie Chapman and other women, six months before ratification of the 19th Amendment granting all citizens, regardless of sex, the right to vote, the LWV is currently a non-partisan organization of men and women. They have worked hard to improve U.S. systems of government and impact public policy through education and advocacy. A variety of government issues, such as Education, Health Care, the Environment, Energy, and Money in Politics are thoroughly studied before taking a detailed consensus of the membership on aspects of these topics in order to develop educated opinions and act upon them.
