After nearly two years of sitting as a vacant lot and nearly six years since it last saw any organized use, the former city swimming pool site near Stange’s Park will soon undergo yet another transformation.
According to city administrator Dave Johnson, work will soon be underway toward a complete renovation of the site, as part of a larger $350,000 renovation of the entire park.
Dirt and grading work was recently completed at the former pool site and by late summer, the lot will be replaced by a 3,200 square foot facility which will be available for rent to the public; complete with a kitchenette, covered seating area capable of seating 100+ and restrooms.
In terms of the park renovation, Johnson indicates the existing tennis and basketball courts will be removed and renovations will be completed to the existing walking bridges. A new, regulation sized basketball court will be constructed further west of the current location, due to safety concerns related to the Prairie River. The current parking lot will also be reconstructed under a new configuration.
“The funds for this project were approved as part of the Parks and Recreation 2018 budget,” Johnson stated.
