Merrill basketball player, coach selected as All-Stars

Merrill’s Zach Mootz has been named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All Star Team. Zach will be a member of the North Division 2 team. The WBCA All-Star game showcases seniors of each division who possess great talent and tremendous character. The WBCA All-Star games started back in 1978, and each year the purpose of these games is to raise funds to help fight against childhood cancer through the MACC (Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer) Fund. Zach will be doing his part by working to raise $500. To date the WBCA has donated over $2.5 million to the MACC Fund.

Merrill Varsity Boys Head Coach Jake Schalow has been selected as the head coach for the Division 2 North team. Merrill High School will be the hosting site for the team to practice at during the week leading up to the WBCA All Star Division 2 Game.

“Zach is excited for this wonderful opportunity to play the game he loves and raise money for such a worthwhile cause. He is proud to represent the Merrill Basketball program and community,” said Zach’s mother. Julie Mootz.
