Girls track takes first in home meet

On Thursday (March 22) the Merrill girls track team hosted an indoor meet at Merrill High School. The Bluejays perfromed well and were able to come away with a team first place finish.

In the 50 yard dash Merrill had a nice showing with Autumn Schenzel coming in first place with a time of 7.2 seconds. Faith Seliger wouldn’t finish far behind as she ran a time of 7.3 seconds for second place. Dalie Thomas would finish fourth in the event with a time of 7.5 seconds. In the 200 meter dash Autumn Schenzel had another solid run as she took second place with a time of 28.9 seconds. The 1600 meter run saw Merrill’s Anne Herdt take a third place finish with a time of 7:03.40. Emily Sczygelski ran in the 50 meter hurdles and was able to come out with a second place finish with a time of nine seconds.

The 4×100 relay team ran by Autumn Schenzel, Dalie Thomas, Faith Seliger and Destiny Hintz, took second place as they ran a time of 1:31.10. Faith Seliger also had a nice day jumping as she finished in second in the high jump with a height of four feet and eight inches. Merrill dominated the long jump with Schenzel taking second place, Journey Smith taking third and Emily Destiny Hintz taking fourth. In the pole vault Emily Sczygelski dominated the rest of the field as she got a height if nine feet, two feet higher than the second place finisher, Abigal Rasmussen of Merrill. Morgan Wardall rounded out the field events as she took first place in the Shot put with a distance of 32-10.00.

The Merrill girls track team will be back in action Tuesday, April 3 as they travel to Marshfield for a meet at 4:30.
