City Council to consider Festival Grounds project, tax delinquent property sales

The Merrill Common Council will consider bids for Festival Grounds projects and the sale of tax delinquent properties, among other matters, at next Tuesday’s meeting.

The Festival Grounds projects include a new restroom building and new roof and siding on the Steckling Building. The low bidder on the restroom project is JAS at $224,529. S.D. Ellenbecker is the low bidder on the Steckling Building facelift at $69,668.

The Bierman Family Foundation has committed a donation totaling $240,000 toward the projects. The city would pay the remaining balance of just over $54,000 for the two projects. The adopted 2018 city project included up to $200.000 for the new restroom building.

In other business, the council will consider bids on tax delinquent properties. Lincoln County took the tax deeds on 15 properties in the city of Merrill. The city purchased those from the county and put them up for bid, receiving bids on 11 of the properties – mostly vacant lots and one house. The high bids total just over $19,000. The city also received a high bid of $2,500 for a business building on East Second Street.

The council also will consider resolutions to approve the Lincoln County All Hazards Mitigation Plan Update, and honor Chris Marion for his extended service to the Merrill Fire Department and great contribution to the city of Merrill.
