River Bend Trail progress continues

Construction of an addition to the actual River Bend Trail was completed in 2017, making the walking and biking trail three miles in length. Plans are in the works to further extend the trail in 2018. Work is still being done, but it’s more behind the scenes right now.

The trailhead building at the south end of Park Street is under reconstruction by Agra and the exterior is being finished. Windows were donated by Lincoln Wood. Plans and fundraising for the interior design are underway.

A design committee has been set up with members of the River District Development Foundation Board to make this an updated, rentable addition to the Merrill park system. The WPS Foundation has donated money to cover the cost of lights and fans.

The bathrooms and kitchen areas are nearly finished with work done by J & J Lee and Bob Weaver. Walls and ceilings are next with Request for Proposal packages being compiled. Local contractors will be encouraged to submit interior plan proposals and budgetary pricing.

Work will get underway as soon as possible. This project should be completed in 2018 and available for the community to enjoy.
