Irene M. Baumann

Irene M. Baumann, 94, of Merrill, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital, Merrill.

Irene was born August 21, 1923, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Albert and Emilie (Henkelman) Braun.  She married Carl W. Baumann on August 28, 1943 in the Town of Pine River, Lincoln County.  He preceded her in death on May 16, 1985.  Irene was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin, Marathon County, where she was a member of the Ladies Aide.  Irene served as the treasurer of the Ladies Aid for three years and also taught Sunday School for eleven years.  Prior to her marriage, Irene worked at Weinbrenner Shoe Company.  After she wed Carl, she became a full time farm wife and raised two children.  Later on, Irene took a job outside the home as a cook at Harold & Marge’s Legion.  She also volunteered at Dime & Dollar in Merrill.  Irene adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheephead, and like playing games with her friends at Park Place in Merrill.  Irene also enjoyed embroidery, crocheting and stamp collecting.

Survivors include her children, Jane (William) Hanson and Larry (Norma) Baumann both of Merrill; five grandsons, Kevin (Melissa) Hanson, Scott Baumann, Brent (Jenny) Baumann, Kent (Tonya) Baumann and Kurt Baumann; granddaughter-in-law, Jenna Hanson; sixteen great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elenora Ollhoff of Wausau; and several dear cousins, nieces and nephews.  Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Baumann; infant son, LeRoy Baumann; parents, Albert and Emilie Braun; step-father, George Hoffman; grandson, Todd Hanson; several special cousins; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The funeral service for Irene will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin, Marathon County.  The Rev. Andrew DeGier will officiate.  Burial will take place in the church cemetery.  The visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Thursday at the church.  Taylor-Stine Funeral Home & Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Berlin or Northland Lutheran High School.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Pine Crest Nursing Home and Ascension Good Samaritan Hospital along with Dr. Paul Thompson for the wonderful care they gave Mom.
