Merrill Area Public Schools implements new facility fee schedule

Merrill Area Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. John Sample, announced today that the District is now implementing a new fee structure for facility use requests. In an effort for increased communication, the Board of Education and the school district wanted the community to be aware of the changes.
The Activities and Facilities departments reviewed the fee schedule and realized that they were taking a loss on facility rentals due to custodial and technology worker salaries; as well as, utility and supply costs that were being incurred.
“The fee structure has always been in place,” said Dale Bergman, Director of Buildings & Grounds, “As we reviewed what our community’s needs were, we noticed there were some gaps. We made a few more spaces available in order to provide a better offering to our community.”
“It is important to maintain communication with the organizations in our community,” commented Dr. John Sample, MAPS Superintendent, “It is not our intent to create hardships for those looking to use our facilities but as a means of covering our district costs associated with facility usage.”
At its Sept. 27 Regular Board Meeting, the Board of Education voted to accept the updated fee structure as presented and allow the activities and facilities departments to adjust those fees as necessary. The fees had not been increased since September 2010.
