The Bluejay varsity football squad has enjoyed considerable success this season and senior Running Back/Middle Linebacker Nevada Laabs has proven to be a key cornerstone of that success. In the last few weeks alone, Laabs has pounded the ball from the Bluejay backfield for 184 yards on just 21 carries and a score; averaging a punishing 8.7 yards per rush.
Defensively, Laabs led the team in tackles versus Rhinelander on Sep. 29 (7 solo, 2 tackles for loss) and stood 2nd on the team in tackles two weeks ago versus Medford with 6 solo and an assist.
A three-year starter on the football team, Nevada also competes on the varsity track team and will enter his third year as a team member.
Aside from sports, Nevada participates in MHS FFA, Link Crew and volunteered at the Bull Falls Brew Fest for Honor Flight Veterans and is also a Special Olympics volunteer.
When he has free time, Nevada enjoys spending time in the outdoors hunting, 4 wheeling and shooting trap with family and friends.
Son of Mathew and Autumn Laabs of Merrill, Nevada currently maintains a 3.5 GPA.
Following graduation next Spring, Nevada has narrowed his college choices down to UW-Stevens Point and UW-Madison and hopes to continue playing football at the college level.
