Merrill Police Reports

September 11
9:56 a.m.- Officers investigated a theft from a local business. As a result, a male suspect was identified and was cited for retail theft.
9:58 a.m.- A caller reported the theft of cash from her purse. While officers questioned a potential male suspect, the male was found to be in violation of his probation rules. The male was arrested and taken to jail for a probation violation. The theft investigation is ongoing.
11:53 a.m.- Officers received a report of a suspicious male and female near the River Bend Trail. Officers located the individuals and it was found that the male had an active warrant for his arrest. It was also found that the female had fresh drug related charges from a neighboring agency and that agency was requesting that the female be taken into custody on those charges. Both the male and female were arrested and taken to jail.
4:12 p.m.- Officers arrested a male for a probation violation in the 1000 block of East 1st Street.

September 12
2:35 p.m.- An officer took a report of a male subject that was making threats towards his ex-girlfriend. The investigating officer obtained statements and reviewed text messages that were sent by the suspect. The suspect was located and taken into custody on charges of domestic disorderly conduct, intimidation of a victim and harassment.
3:53 p.m.- Officers were requested by Probation and Parole to administer a preliminary breath test to a male subject that was on probation. The PBT test showed alcohol in the male subjects system and he was arrested for a probation hold and transported to the jail.
7:03 p.m.- An officer responded to the area of East Sixth Street in regards to chickens running at large and into the roadway. The chickens were corralled and secured back in the coop. The owner of the chickens had been warned the week prior about the chickens running at large. The owner was cited for animal running at large.

September 13
7:03 p.m.- An officer responded to a criminal damage to property complaint. The caller had a rock thrown their first story window. No suspects at this time, investigation is ongoing.

September 14
7:08 p.m.- An officer observed a male party who had an active warrant for his arrest. The male was arrested and transported to the jail.

September 15
9:43 a.m.- Officers arrested a male for a probation violation in the 1000 Block of East 1st Street.
12:11 p.m.- A caller reported that her home had been burglarized and several of her items were missing. The investigation is ongoing.

September 17
3:29 p.m.- Officers were dispatched to the area of West Main Street and Genesee Street in reference to a male subject who had a warrant out for his arrest through probation and parole. Officers attempted contact and the male fled on foot. A Deputy shortly after found the individual near the South State Street bridge. Officers made contact and the male threw a bag containing unknown material into the river. The male was taken into custody for the warrant.
11:54 p.m.- An officer conducted a traffic stop on an individual who drove through an intersection on West Main Street without stopping for the stop sign. The officer observed signs of impairment on the individual and placed them through field sobriety tests. The officer did not have enough signs of impairment to arrest the individual for operating while intoxicated. The individual was on probation and admitted to drinking alcohol. Probation and parole placed a hold on the individual for violation of rules and he was taken into custody on a probation warrant. The driver was cited for failing to stop and operating after revocation.
