MPD announces commencement of winter parking restrictions

Tuesday afternoon, Merrill Police Chief Ken Neff announced the upcoming commencement of Winter Off Street Parking Restrictions.

On Thursday, Dec. 1, the winter parking restrictions in the City of Merrill officially began. Until March 31, no parking is allowed on city streets between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.

From 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., odd/even parking is required, which means on even-numbered calendar days, vehicles are to be parked on the even-numbered side of the street and on odd-numbered calendar days, vehicles are to be parked on the odd side of the street. The exception to odd/even parking occurs on streets where other restrictions normally exist. Despite the fact we have not yet experienced a significant snowfall, the ordinance took effect on Thursday.

“However, we will not be actively enforcing the ordinance until we experience enough snowfall to require plowing of the streets,” Neff said. “Please make sure you have off-street parking plans for when the first significant snowfall occurs.”
