Eagle Scout project builds education area for Community Garden

Ian Cohrs, a member of Boy Scout Troop 599, recently completed his Eagle Scout project by coordinating the construction of the Tall Pines Community Garden Education Area.

Ian was in charge of developing a blueprint design of additions to the current garden shed. This included a collapsible awning, deck and installation of rain gutters. With this design, Ian configured all construction measurements and supplies for the project. With the help of Troop 599 and his family, Ian led the construction of his plan this past October. The additions to the shed provide shelter for community gardeners and a way to capture rain from the shed to water the garden. It also provides a teaching space for education programs on gardening.

“The Tall Pines Community Garden is so grateful with Ian’s leadership and help in creating such a wonderful place for our garden,” said Betty Ann Tubbin, President of Live Sustainable Lincoln County. “This addition will be well used by the community for years to come.”

Ian is a senior at Merrill High School and plans to have his Eagle Scout requirements completed within the next few months. He is the son of Kevin and Tammy Cohrs, Merrill.
