Police notify public of sex offender’s release
In accordance with state statutes, the Merrill Police Department is notifying the community of the release of a convicted sex offender.
On Oct. 25, 2016, Hans Powell will be released to Community Supervision administered by the WI Department of Corrections. He is not wanted by the police at this time.
Powell was convicted in Lincoln County on Feb. 25, 1999 of Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child; and on Aug. 10, 1998 of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault. Powell sexually assaulted a 13-year-old and 14-year-old female acquaintance.
Powell will be released back to Merrill/Lincoln County, which was his county of residence at the time of his conviction. He will be on supervision with the WI Department of Corrections until May 2, 2019. Upon release, Powell will be placed on Intensive Supervision and will be subject to lifetime Global Positioning System (GPS) monitoring. He will be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program for life. The WI Sex Offender Registry can be located at www.widocoffenders.org.
