Lorraine Preboske

Lorraine Preboske, age 100, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2016, while residing at Bell Tower Residence, Merrill.

Lorraine was born March 29, 1916, in Antigo, daughter of the late Felix and Elizabeth (Timm) Drengler. She married Felix ‘Pete’ Preboske on September 30, 1939, in Antigo. He preceded her in death on February 22, 1994. Lorraine attended nursing school in Milwaukee, graduating in 1937 as a registered nurse. After graduation, Lorraine served as a visiting nurse in the Milwaukee area for 2 years. After marrying Pete, Lorraine did private duty nursing in Merrill, then worked as an RN at Pine Crest Nursing Home, Merrill, for 11 years, and retired in 1978. Lorraine was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, where she was a former member of the Mission Circle, visited shut-ins, and attended Bible Study. Lorraine volunteered for 25 years with the Merrill Food Pantry, and she also volunteered her time with the Merrill Senior Center. Lorraine enjoyed time with the ‘Red Hatters, and had been an avid golfer, a game she began playing at the age of 50. Lorraine enjoyed traveling with her husband to Hawaii and many historic places in the United States, and also enjoyed traveling with her daughter and son in law to their home in Arizona. Lorraine also spent many happy times at the Ravn family home and cottage. Lorraine’s greatest pleasure was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Lynne (Michael) Gallagher, Greendale, WI; her son, David (Kris) Preboske, Eagle River, WI; eight grandchildren, Michelle Martinez, Paul Gallagher, Katherine Gallagher, Suzanne Hahn, Michael Preboske, Greg Preboske, Bethany Martinovici, and Lindsay Lisowski; nine great grandchildren; a daughter in law, Judy Preboske, North Carolina; one brother, George Drengler, Ohio; her dear friend and former neighbor, Pat Schulz, Merrill; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Lorraine is preceded in death by two sons, Paul and Peter Preboske, a granddaughter, Elizabeth Preboske, and two siblings Lucille and Richard.

A memorial service for Lorraine Preboske will begin at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 14, 2016, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill. The Rev. R. Brian Stolarczyk will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date in Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Antigo. Visitation will begin at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the Preboske family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Merrill, the Merrill Senior Center, T.B. Scott Library, or the Merrill Food Pantry.
