Rapids proves quicker than Merrill at swim meet

The Merrill swimmers faced of against Wisconsin Rapids-Lincoln on Thursday (Sept. 29), and although there were some stellar performances from the Jays, they came up short with just 44 team points compared to Lincoln’s 126 team points.

First place finishers included Caitlyn Kolehouse and Trinity Kanitz. Kolehouse placed first in both the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.07 seconds and the 100-freestyle with a time of 1:00.21. Trinity Kanitz placed first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:10.6. She also placed second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:33.65.

In JV, Rianna Dowds placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:34.34. She also placed third in the 100-yard freestyle JV with a time of 1:16.56.

Other finishers included Kaytlin Woller who placed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:36.98 and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (29.9 sec). Katy Ball placed fifth in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:54.1 and fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.06.

Aliyah Pillai placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:19.15 and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:21.9. Faith Wheat placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:32.91 and fourth in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:35.01.

In the 200-yard medley relay, the Merrill A-team consisting of Trinity Kanitz, Rachel Hoeppner, Kolehouse and Woller placed third with a combined time of 2:15.24. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Merrill A-team consisting of Trinity Kanitz, Woller, Ball and Kolehouse placed third with a time of 1:54.47.

It was also parent’s night for the Merrill swim team, part way through the meet all the parents of the players lined up and received a flower as a show of gratitude for all the parents’ support.
