Hatchet swimmers leave Medford in their wake

Yet another good meet for the Hatchet swimmers, as they handily defeated Medford with final meet score of 103.5 to 66.5. Tomahawk placed first in every varsity event, and second and/or third in many others.

Rachel Dallman placed first in the 50-yard varsity freestyle with a time of 26.14 seconds, beating out Markki Farmer of Medford by less than a half-second (26.49). Jackie Elliott placed third with a time of 29.75 seconds.

Dallman again placed first, this time in the 100- yard freestyle with a time of 58.45 seconds. Shelby Benaszeski placed third with a time of 1:00.43.

Kylee Theiler placed first in the 200-yard varsity freestyle with a time of 2:09.34 and Shelby placed fourth with a time of 2:18.69.

Theiler also placed first in the 500-yard freestyle varsity with a time of 5:47.36 and Kaylie Svacina was behind her in second place with a time of 6:04.92.

Megan Marcks placed first in the 100-yard varsity backstroke with a time of 1:04.93 and Jackie Elliott placed third in the event with a time of 1:15.86.

In the 100-yard varsity breaststroke, Kirstin Marcks placed first with a time of 1:15.62 and Svacina placed second with a time of 1:18.27.

In the 100-yard varsity butterfly, Katy Volz placed first with a time of 1:03.73 and Megan Marcks placed second with a time of 1:07.17. Volz also placed first in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:22.84. Kirstin Marcks placed third in the event with a time of 2:36.31.

For the 200-yard varsity freestyle relay, the Hatchet A-Team consisting of Volz, Benaszeski, Svacina and Theiler placed first with a combined team time of 1:46.82. The B-Team consisting of Kirstin Marcks, Allyson Carstensen, Jackie Elliot and Savannah Ristau placed third with a combined team time of 2:00.76.

For the 400-yard varsity freestyle relay, the A-Team consisting of Benaszeski, Theiler, Megan Marcks and Dallman placed first with a combined team time of 4:02.37. Last but not least, the A-Team consisting of Kirstin & Megan Marcks, Volz and Dallman placed first in the 200-yard varsity medley relay with a combined time of 1:57.94.

“We won every event, but you can lose a meet by not having strong second and third swimmers,” comments head coach Theresa L’Esperance. “Tonight, Kaylie Svacina, Megan Marcks, and Savannah Ristau help contribute to the win by great swimming.”

The Hatchet swimmers will travel to Lawrence University today for a two-day meet and dive competition. Events start at 5:15 on Friday and continue at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
